1940s’ Home Front Wartime Weekend, Rushden, Northamptonshire
Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th October 2013 is Rushden Station’s (RHTS) 1940s’ Weekend. From what we’ve heard last year’s event was very well received indeed and this year, in addition to the daytime line-up ~ steam-driven road and rail vehicles, living history displays and so on ~ there will also be live entertainment on Saturday evening with the Blitz Sisters. The Buffet Car, serving hot and cold food, now has a 5-star rating and offers excellent value for money and, of course, it is no exaggeration to say that the CAMRA award-winning bar offers the best selection and the best-kept beer in the county ~ and that’s a fact!! On Sunday, slug back those Alki Sozlers and return to the event. There is a memorial service scheduled and, if David Twitchings’ tunic isn’t too dreadfully tight (I keep telling him to purchase one from Station 109!) he’ll be leading the Mainline Band with tunes that won the war. They’ll either drive your feet to Lindy Hop or, alternatively, back to the bar for more. On the subject of feet, don’t forget to triple step your way across the road to our emporium. Step Back In Time with Station 109: enjoy a glass of wine, 40s’ music, nostalgic 40s’ newsreels and buy yourself a piece or two of the past. Be Seeing You.
