REAL PITH HAT
BEST SOLAHAT MANUFACTURERS
D.63. MUNCIPAL MARKET
This is the real McCoy: a lightweight pith hat of the Colonial era constructed from shola pith.
Especially designed to keep the wearer’s head cool, the hat also has two ‘air vents’ on either side and a vent in the centre.
The blancoed exterior is set off with a canvas pleated handband.
The interior is a work of art ~ and science!
The interior rim of the hat is lined in a soft, but hard-wearing, green material. The brown leather liner is mounted on a corrugated band that insulates the hat from the outer shell and provides added comfort. The centre is lined in a satin/silk material and the details of manufacture impressed and printed on the interior crown.
The original size label indicates ‘6 7/8’
Made with durability and a long-life in mind, the hat is in remarkably good, wearable vintage condition. Naturally, the interior shows signs of use and the leather chin strap has broken, but this can be easily stitched.
For anyone interested in collecting memorabilia from the colonial era, this is a real gem. It is also eminently suitable as a prop for Murder Mystery weekends, themed parties, theatrical events and so forth.
