Red/Scarlet Royal Engineers
Military Tunic dated 1913:
King George Buttons ~
A red/scarlet Royal Engineers’ military dress tunic, clearly dated 1913 as the photograph of the label shows.
Handsomely presented jacket, with velvet collar and cuffs, gold trims and dark-blue piping and King George V Royal Engineers’ buttons.
The tunic is half-lined in a thick, white linen material and the sleeves in white cotton. The War Department ‘arrow’ and ‘WD’ initials are readily identifiable on one of the sleeve linings.
Approximate measurements with the garment laid flat:
Underarm to Underarm: 18ins
Shoulder Seam to Cuff: 24 ½ ins
Collar to Hem: 28 ins
With the exception of some age-related marks, this tunic is in amazingly good vintage condition. The colour, on all fronts, is still fresh and vibrant and the white cotton linings to the sleeves as crisp as when they were new. It is possible that this tunic was never issued, or has been carefully stored, as the majority of the buttons are still wrapped in tissue paper.
The jacket has with it its original white leather belt (see photograph).
A good collectable and excellent display piece.
