The jacket, which dates from about the 1930s/40s, is made from a heavy-weight black wool. It buttons up to the lapels on four large domed metal shank buttons, each embossed with the St John’s Ambulance and cross insignia. There are two bullion embroidered collar dogs in red, green, blue, silver and gold and the oval cloth shoulder badge reading ‘St John Londonist’. The breast pockets are of the expanding type and button down. The cargo-style patch pockets on either side at the hip are also button fastening.
The vintage condition of this item is good, with some wear to the edges of the white lined shoulder straps; from an attic clearance, so the jacket would benefit from a good brush and sponge down.
