WWI RFC OLD BRITISH LEATHER FLYING HELMET
A leather flying helmet in exceptionally good condition for its age.
There are no identifying marks within the helmet, but it appears to be of a type warn by early aviators during WWI.
The leather is superbly soft and supple; the press-studs (snappers) make firm contact both on the protective ear pieces and on the fold-down peak. The leather chin strap has been repaired at some point in the helmets history and would benefit from a few strengthening stitches.
The lining, which is a soft chamois leather is nicely intact, with no tears or rips.
The helmet is part fur lined, around the neck-piece and the ears, as is the folding flap at the front.
A very fine example of an early 20th century flying helmet.
